It is known for its wide variety of animals, landscapes and people from various tribes throughout the country.

Meaning: "Kenya" is due to Mount Kenya. In some local languages, it means "luminous mountain".

Population:  53 million inhabitants

Official languages: English and Swahili

Capital: Nairobi

About KIBERA

KIBERA is the largest slum* within Kenya and the second largest within Africa.

 

It is an informal population located in the suburbs of Nairobi.

Meaning: forest or jungle

Population density: +2,000 people per hectare  

 

*Slums: marginal neighborhoods with little access to basic services.
